미국 연방수사국, FBI가 최근 금융위기를 촉발시킨 4개 주요 미국 금융기관들에 대한 수사에 착수했습니다.
FBI는 양대 주택담보대출 기관인 패니메이와 프레디맥, 세계 최대 보험사 AIG, 그리고 투자은행 리먼 브러더스 등 4개 금융회사들의 사기혐의 가능성에 대해 조사하고 있습니다.
금융계 전반에 걸쳐 사기혐의를 조사중인 FBI는 해당회사와 임직원 등에 수사를 집중될 것으로 전해졌습니다. 이들 회사에 대한 조사에 따라 현재 FBI가 수사하는 금융기관은 모두 26개로 늘었습니다.
금융기관에 대한 FBI의 수사로 지난 6월에도 투자은행 베어스턴스의 경영진 2명이 사기혐의로 체포된 바 있습니다.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) has launched a probe of the four U.S. financial
institutions at the center of the crisis on Wall Street.
News reports Tuesday say the FBI is investigating potential fraud by mortgage
finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, insurer American International Group
(AIG), and investment bank Lehman Brothers.
The inquiries are focused on the institutions and their executives, and are
part of a wide-ranging fraud investigation by the FBI. The agency now has a total
of 26 investigations related to the near-collapse of the U.S. financial sector.
One of cases involves the arrest of two former managers of investment bank Bear
Stearns, who were arrested in June on on securities fraud and other charges.
Bear Stearns nearly collapsed in March of this year before it was purchased by
rival J.P. Morgan Chase.
