The United States and Poland have signed an agreement on placing elements of a U.S. anti-missile defense system in Poland.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski signed the document in Warsaw Wednesday, one day after Poland's cabinet formally approved it. After the signing, both ministers said negotiations were sometimes difficult, but they called the resulting deal "satisfactory."
Hours later, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that Moscow's response to further development of the U.S. missile shield will go beyond diplomacy. It did not elaborate. But a ministry statement called the missile system "one of the instruments in an extremely dangerous set of American military projects."
