조지 부시 미국 대통령은 15일 그루지야에서 러시아 병력이 철수하겠다는 약속을 지켜야 한다고 촉구했습니다.
부시 대통령은 이 날 백악관에서 가진 연설에서 그루지야는 용기 있는 민주주의 국가라며 주권 존중의 중요성을 거듭 강조했습니다.
콘돌리자 라이스 미 국무장관은 이 날 러시아와 그루지야 간의 정전 협정을 마무리 짓기 위해 그루지야의 수도 트빌리시를 방문했습니다. 라이스 장관은 미하일 사카쉬빌리 그루지야 대통령과 회동할 계획입니다.
라이스 장관은 앞서 14일 니콜라 사르코지 프랑스 대통령과 만났으며, 프랑스가 중재한 정전 협정문 초안을 갖고 있습니다. 라이스 장관은 이 협정으로 러시아 병력이 그루지야 영토에서 철군하는 것이 확실해질 것이라고 말했습니다.
사카쉬빌리 그루지야 대통령은 이 날 발간된 러시아 신문과의 인터뷰에서 러시아에 어떠한 것도 양보하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

President Bush has reiterated that Russia must honor its commitment to withdraw its troops from Georgia.
Speaking at the White House today (Friday), the president called Georgia
a "courageous democracy" and again stressed the importance of respect
for its sovereignty. He said the Georgian people have cast their lot with
western democracies and said the West will not "cast them aside."
Mr. Bush said a contentious relationship with the West is not in Russia's
interests, and he stressed that "bullying and intimidation" is not an
acceptable way to conduct foreign policy.
His comments came as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was in the
Georgian capital, Tbilisi, for talks with President Mikheil Saakashvili in an
effort to finalize a cease-fire deal between Georgia and Russia. Rice said the
agreement will ensure that Russian troops leave Georgian territory.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed support for Georgia's
territorial integrity and called Russian actions in Georgia disproportionate.
She spoke after talks in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi with Russian
President Dmitri Medvedev, who expressed doubt that residents of Georgia's
breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia will ever accept being part of
Georgia.
