Former U.S. President Bill Clinton says he is willing to campaign for
Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who defeated his wife in the
party's nomination race.
Mr. Clinton said Thursday he had a "good talk" with Obama on the
telephone several weeks ago. The former president said he expressed a readiness
to campaign for Obama whenever the candidate wants.
Relations between the two men were strained during the Democratic Party's
sometimes bitter nomination contest that ended last month. Mr. Clinton
campaigned vigorously for his wife, Hillary, and often criticized Obama, her
main rival.
In another development, top aides for Republican presidential candidate John
McCain criticized Obama's upcoming trip to Europe and the Middle East. They
accused the Democrat of planning to turn the trip into an unprecedented
overseas campaign rally.
Obama's aides responded by saying the McCain campaign should "stop
worrying" about the Democrat's travel plans.
