국제원자력기구가 다음달 8월 1일 이사회를 소집해 인도의 핵사찰 계획안을 검토할 방침이라고 밝혔습니다.
인도의 핵사찰 계획안은 미국과 인도간 핵협정을 발효시키는데 도움을 주기 위해 국제원자력기구에 제출됐습니다. 이에 따라 인도는 핵무기 확산에 연루되지 않았다는 사실을 증명하기 위해 민간 원자로를 국제원자력 기구 감시단에 공개하기로 합의했습니다.
35개국으로 구성된 국제원자력기구 이사회는 8월 회의에서 인도가 제안한 핵사찰 계획안에 대한 찬반 투표를 실시할 계획입니다.
인도는 또한 미국과의 핵협정 체결에 앞서 45개국으로 구성된 핵공급그룹으로부터 거래금지 해제 처분을 받아야 합니다. 인도는 핵확산금지조약에 서명하지 않았기 때문에 그간 핵공급그룹과 핵거래를 하지 못해 왔습니다.

The United Nations nuclear agency says its governing board will meet on August First to consider India's offer to allow U.N. inspections of some Indian nuclear facilities.
India made the offer as part of a deal with the United States that will give New Delhi access to civilian nuclear technology. Under the deal, India has agreed to open its civilian nuclear reactors to U.N. inspections to ensure they are not involved in weapons proliferation.
The International Atomic Energy Agency's 35-nation governing board is expected to vote on the Indian proposal, known as the "Safeguards Agreement," at the August meeting.
Before India can trade in nuclear technology, it must also secure approval from a group of 45 states that regulate the industry. The Nuclear Suppliers Group currently bans trade with states such as India, which have not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
