이란의 마무드 아마디네자드 대통령은 이라크의 누리 알-말리키 총리와 회담을 가진 뒤를 이어 두 나라간 교류를 확대할 것을 촉구했습니다.
이란의 관영 이르나 통신은 아마디네자드 대통령이 이란과 이라크간 보다 강력한 유대 관계는 이라크의 개발과 안정에 도움을 줄 것이라고 말했다고 전했습니다.
이들 두 지도자는 8일 늦게 말리키 총리의 취임 이후 3번째의 공식 이란 방문의 일환으로 회담했습니다. 아마디네자드 대통령은 지난 3월에 역사적인 이라크 방문을 단행한 바 있습니다.
이보다 앞서 8일 말리키 총리는 이란의 마뉴세르 모타키 외무 장관과 만나 미국과 이라크간 안보 협정 제안이 이란에게 피해를 주지 않을 것이라고 다짐했습니다.
이 발언은 미국과 이라크 관계관들이 유엔 임무가 만료되는 12월 31일 이후에도 미군 병력이 이라크에 계속 주둔할 수 있도록 허용할 안보 협정에 관해 논의하고 있는 가운데 나왔습니다. 이란은 그같은 협정에 반대하고 있습니다.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for expansion of ties between his country and Iraq following a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Iran's state news agency (IRNA) reports that President Ahmadinejad said stronger relations between the two nations will help Iraq's development and stability.
The two leaders met late today (Sunday) as part of Mr. Maliki's state visit to Iran, his third since he became Prime Minister. President Ahmadinejad made a landmark visit to Iraq in March.
Earlier today, the Iraqi prime minister met with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and he assured Tehran that a proposed U.S.-Iraq security agreement will not harm Iran.
The comment comes as U.S. and Iraqi officials discuss a security deal that would allow American forces to remain in Iraq beyond December 31st, when their U.N. mandate expires. Iran opposes such an agreement.
