북한과 일본이 7일 중국의 베이징에서 양국간의 오랜 분규를 해결하고 관계 정상화를 위한 실무협의를 시작했습니다.
일본은 북 핵 6자회담의 일본측 수석대표인 사이키 아키다카 일본 외무성 아시아·대양주 국장과 송일호 북한 국교정상화 담당 교섭대사가 7일과 8일 양일에 걸쳐 협의를 갖는다고 6일 발표했습니다.
사이키 국장은 7일 베이징으로 출발하기에 앞서 북한이 이번 협의에서 진실하고 건설적인 자세를 보여주기를 바란다고 말했습니다. 하지만 북한측의 송 대사는 베이징에 도착한 직후 이번 협의에 관해 자세한 언급을 하지 않았습니다.
이번 양자간 실무협의에서는 지난 1970년대와 80년대 북한이 납치한 일본인 13명의 문제가 집중 논의될 것으로 보입니다.
하지만 관측통들은 이번 협의에서 뚜렸한 돌파구가 마련되기는 어려울 것으로 전망하고 있습니다.

Japan and North Korea began talks in Beijing today (Saturday) in a bid to resolve long-standing bilateral disputes and normalize relations.
Tokyo announced Friday that Japanese envoy Akitaka Saiki would meet with North Korean diplomat Song Il Ho today and Sunday.
Before leaving Tokyo earlier today, Saiki said he would like North Korea to show a sincere and constructive state of mind at the talks.
North Korea's envoy declined to elaborate on the talks after arriving in Beijing.
The talks will focus on North Korea's abductions of 13 Japanese citizens in the 1970s and 1980s to train as spies.
No breakthroughs are expected on the issue.
