지난 3일 태풍 나르기스 호로 큰 피해를 입은 버마에서 구호작업이 더디게 진행되고 있다고 국제구호단체들이 전했습니다.
현재 외부 구호물자가 버마로 조금씩 들어가고는 있지만, 태풍 피해가 심한 이라와디 삼각주 지역은 도로가 끊겨 구호기관들의 접근이 어려운 상태입니다. 또 많은 구호 인력들이 버마 군사정부로부터 아직까지 입국 사증을 발급받지 못하고 있습니다.
유엔 세계식량계획은 이번 태풍 피해로 무려 1백만 명이 집을 잃었고, 마을이 거의 파괴된 곳도 있다고 전했습니다. 국제적십자는 버마의 태풍 이재민들을 돕기 위해 약 6백만 달라의 성금 모금에 나섰습니다.
버마 정부 관리들은 태풍 나르기스로 인한 사망자 수가 2만 2천명에 이르며 실종자 수도 4만1천명에 이른다고 밝혔습니다.

Dmitry Medvedev has been sworn in as Russia's new president.
He took the oath of office at an inaugural ceremony today (Wednesday) at the Kremlin.
Soon after, Mr. Medvedev nominated his predecessor, Vladimir Putin, to be prime minister.
Russia's parliament must confirm the appointment. Approval is virtually certain because parliament is dominated by Mr. Putin's political party.
Mr. Medvedev has said he will continue all of Mr. Putin's policies, but has made it clear that as president, he will determine foreign policy. However, Russian political analysts believe Mr. Putin will remain an influential figure who could appear to be more co-president instead of prime minister.
Mr. Putin served two four-year terms as Russia's president. At age 42, Mr. Medvedev is the youngest Russian leader in nearly 100 years.
