중국 관영 언론은 지난 달 중국 군이 티벳에서의 반 정부 시위를 진압한 이후 처음으로 조만간 티벳 관광이 다시 허용될 것이며, 티벳 불교사원에서 종교 의식이 재개될 것이라고 보도했습니다.
지난 달 14일 티벳의 수도 라사에서 벌어진 시위를 중국군이 진압하는 과정에서 폭력사태가 발생한 이후 관광객들의 티벳 여행이 금지돼 왔습니다.
중국 당국은 이달초 오는 5월 1일부터 티벳 관광을 다시 허용할 것이라고 발표했으나 나중에 이같은 결정이 번복됐다는 보도가 나왔습니다.
티벳 수도 라사의 드레풍 사원은 곧 한 달에 다섯번씩 불교 의식을 거행할 예정입니다.
한편 19일 중국내 세 개 도시에서 프랑스에 항의하는 중국인들의 시위가 벌어졌습니다.
프랑스 파리에서 실시된 베이징 올림픽 성화봉송이 반 중국 시위로 얼룩진 뒤, 인터넷상에서 시작된 프랑스 반대 움직임은 프랑스 상품 불매운동으로까지 이어졌습니다.
Chinese state media say Tibet will reopen to tourists "soon," and that Buddhist monasteries will resume religious activities for the first time since troops broke up anti-government protests last month.
Tourists have been prevented from traveling to the region since violence began in the capital of Lhasa on March 14th. Authorities announced earlier this month tourism would resume on May first, but reports later surfaced that the decision had been reversed.
Meanwhile, the Drepung monastery in Lhasa will soon hold Buddhist services five times every month.
In a separate development, Chinese citizens staged anti-French protests in at least three cities today (Saturday). An Internet-based drive has evolved to boycott French goods because of the chaotic protests in Paris during the running of the Beijing Olympic torch.
