남아프리카 공화국의 타보 음베키 대통령은 짐바브웨의 대통령 선거 관련 교착상태를 위기로 생각하지 않는다고 말했습니다.
음베키 대통령은 오늘 (12일) 짐바브웨 수도 하라레에서 로버트 무가베 짐바브웨 대통령과 만나 그나라의 정치적 교착상태를 논의한 뒤 이같이 말했습니다. 음베키 대통령은 짐바브웨 국민들이 인내심을 갖고 대선 결과가 발표될때 까지 기다릴 것을 재차 당부했습니다. 짐바브웨 선거관리위원회는 지난 달 29일 치러진 대통령 선거 결과를 아직 발표하지 않고 있습니다.
음베키 대통령은 남아프리카 개발공동체 (SADC) 긴급 정상회의에 앞서 무가베 대통령과 만났습니다. 야당인 민주변화운동당측은 당 후보인 모간 창기라이 총재가 대선에서 무가베 대통령을 누르고 승리했다며 결선투표에 참여하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔습니다. (끝)
South African President Thabo Mbeki arrived in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare today (Saturday) to hold talks with President Robert Mugabe on that country's post-presidential election crisis.
Mr. Mbeki is meeting with his Zimbabwean counterpart ahead of an emergency summit of the Southern African Development Community in Zambia to discuss the crisis. He was appointed last year by the 14-nation bloc to mediate between Mr. Mugabe and opposition leaders.
Zimbabwean state media announced Friday that Mr. Mugabe will not attend the SADC conference, but is sending a team of ministers in his place. Morgan Tsvangirai, the head of the main opposition party Movement for Democratic Change, will attend the conference.
Zimbabwe's electoral commission has not released official results from the March 29th presidential vote.
