미국 국가안보회의의 고든 존드로 대변인은 부시 대통령의 이번 결정은 테러와의 전쟁의 일환으로 이뤄진 것이라고 설명했습니다.
존드로 대변인은 또 파키스탄의 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령이 비상계엄령을 해제하고 자유롭고 공정한 총선거를 실시하겠다는 약속을 지키고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.

President Bush has exercised his authority to waive certain restrictions on security assistance for Pakistan this year, requesting some 300-million dollars to help the new government combat terrorism and transition to democratic rule.
U.S. National Security Council Spokesman Gordon Johndroe said Tuesday the president made the move as part of the Pakistan Waiver Act, which Johndroe says is important to U. S. efforts to respond to terrorism.
Johndroe said Tuesday that Pakistan is a key ally in the war on terror.
He also noted that President Pervez Musharraf has kept his commitment to shed his military uniform, lift the state of emergency and hold free and fair multi-party national elections.
