인도는 핵탄두 장착이 가능한 단거리 탄도 미사일 '아그니-1' 시험발사에 성공했다고 인도 국방부가 밝혔습니다.
이 탄도 미사일 시험 발사는 벵갈만에 있는 휠러 섬에서 23일 단행됐습니다.
아그니-1 탄도 미사일은 사거리 7백 킬로미터의 미사일로 1톤의 탄두를 장착할 수 있습니다. 이 미사일은 과거에도 여러 차례 시험 발사됐습니다.
인도는 자체 핵무기와 전통 무기에 대한 실험을 정기적으로 실시하고 있으며 인도의 오랜 적대국인 파키스탄도 이와 유사한 실험들을 단행하고 있습니다.
지난 1947년에 분할된 이후 세차례의 전투를 벌였던 이들 핵보유국들인 인도와 파키스탄은 수년 전에 체결한 합의에 따라 모든 핵실험을 단행하기에 앞서 상대국에 서로 통보하도록 되어 있습니다.

India's Defense Ministry says it has successfully test-fired a short-range version of its nuclear-capable Agni-1 missile.
The launch was conducted today (Sunday) from Wheeler's Island in the Bay of Bengal.
The missile has a range of up to 700 kilometers, and can carry a one-ton warhead. It has been tested several times in the past.
India routinely tests its nuclear and conventional arsenal. Its longtime rival, Pakistan, conducts similar tests.
The nuclear-armed neighbors -- which have fought three wars since partition in 1947 -- are bound to notify each other of tests in advance, according to a deal they signed several years ago.
