칭쳉 기자는 5일, 웹사이트에 올린 성명에서 음력설인 춘제때 홍콩에서 가족들과 다시 상봉할 수 있게 돼 기쁘다고 말했습니다.

칭쳉 기자는 싱가포르의 ‘스트레이트 타임스’신문의 특파원으로 일했으며, 2005년 4월에 남부 광쩌우성을 방문했다고 중국 당국에 체포됐습니다. 구속 1년이 지난 후 중국 당국은 하루만에 끝낸 즉결 재판에서 그에게 실형을 선고했습니다.

China has released from jail a veteran Hong Kong reporter who served nearly three years in prison on charges of spying for rival Taiwan.
In a statement to the media today (Tuesday), reporter Ching Cheong said he is glad to be able to join his family in Hong Kong for the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday (which begins Thursday).
The details surrounding his release are still not clear. He is reported to be in poor health, but has served about half of his five-year sentence.
Ching Cheong is the chief correspondent for Singapore's "Straits Times" newspaper. In April 2005, he was detained during a visit to southern Guangzhou province. More than a year later, Chinese authorities sentenced him in a speedy one-day trial.
China accuses him of spying for Taiwan.
