엘바라데이 총장은 테란에 도착해서 기자들의 질문에 답하지 않았으며, 유엔 대변인은 엘바라데이 총장이 이틀간 이란의 고위 관리들을 만날 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
유엔 대변인은 또 엘바라데이 총장이 이란 정부의 핵 안전보장조치 이행을 가속화하는 방안을 협의할 것이라고 말했습니다. 유엔대변인은 이어 이번 방문을 통해 이란 정부가 과거와 현재의 핵 활동에 대한 보다 많은 정보를 IAEA에 제공할 기회가 마련될 것이라고 전망했습니다.
이란은 지난달 올해 중순에 첫 핵 발전소의 가동을 시작한다는 계획을 발표했습니다.
미국과 서방 동맹국들은 이란이 민간 용도로 위장한 채 핵 무기 개발을 시도한다고 주장하고 있습니다.
이란 정부는 오직 민간 용도로만 핵을 개발한다는 입장입니다.

The director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, is in Iran today (Friday) in an attempt to resolve outstanding issues related to the country's disputed nuclear program.
ElBaradei did not speak to reporters when he arrived in Tehran, and a U.N. spokeswoman said only that the IAEA chief will meet with high-level Iranian officials during his two-day visit.
The spokeswoman (Michele Montas) said ElBaradei will discuss ways to speed up Iran's implementation of nuclear safeguards. She said ElBaradei also sees the visit as an opportunity for Tehran to provide the IAEA with more information about the country's past and current nuclear activities.
Late last month, Iran announced plans to begin operating its first nuclear power plant, in the middle of this year.
The United States and its Western allies accuse Iran of attempting to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program.
Tehran says its nuclear work is strictly for civilian purposes.
