이란 정부는 17일 부셰르 핵 발전소에 대한 러시아 측의 첫 연료 수송분을 받았다고 밝혔습니다.
이란 관영 방송, ISNA 는 이란 당국자의 말을 빌어 선박으로 수송된 연료 82 t은 부셰르 핵 발전소 첫 해 운영분이라고 보도했습니다.
또 다른 이란 당국자는 이란은 연료를 제공받았지만 우라늄 농축을 중단하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
이에 앞서 러시아 외무부는 국제원자력기구, IAEA가 이란 영토에서 이 연료를 계속 감시하고 확인할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
이란 정부는 부셰르와 다른 지역에서의 핵 관련 활동은 철저히 민간 용도라고 주장하고 있습니다. 그러나 미국과 서방국들은 이란이 핵무기 개발을 숨기기 위해 이같은 핵 활동을 이용하고 있다고 비난해왔습니다.
한편, 이스라엘 대표단이 미국 관리들에게 이란이 여전히 핵 무기를 개발하고 있다고 확신시키기 위해 미국을 방문했습니다. 미국 정보기관은 이란은 지난 2003년 핵 무기 프로그램을 중단했다는 보고서를 최근 발표했었습니다.
Iran has confirmed receiving Russia's first shipment of fuel for Tehran's nuclear power station in Bushehr.
A semi-official Iranian news agency (ISNA) quoted an Iranian official as saying today (Monday) that the 82 tons of fuel in the shipment are for the Bushehr plant's first year of operation.
Another Iranian official said Iran will not halt uranium enrichment even with delivery of the fuel.
Earlier today, Russia's Foreign Ministry said the fuel delivered to the Bushehr station will be under the control and guarantees of the International Atomic Energy Agency while it is in Iranian territory.
Tehran argues that nuclear work in Bushehr and elsewhere is strictly for civilian purposes.
But the United States and its Western allies have accused Iran of using the programs as a cover for developing nuclear weapons.
