파키스탄 군은 14일 발표한 성명에서 파키스탄 핵무기에 관해 국제언론들이 적대적인 보도를 하고 있다고 지적하고, 파키스탄 핵조병창은 절대 안전하다며, 무책임한 경보를 발하는 행위에 대해 경고했습니다.
이같은 성명은 미국이 파키스탄 핵무기 안전을 돕기 위해 거의 1억달러를 지출했다는 미국 ‘뉴욕타임스’신문 보도가 있은지 한 달만에 나온 것입니다.
이 보도는 핵 전문가들이 세계에서 파키스탄의 핵 조병창이 테러분자들에게 가장 취약한 것으로 판단하고 있다고 말했습니다.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has reinforced government control of the country's nuclear arsenal amid international concerns it could fall into the hands of terrorist groups.
During a meeting today (Friday), Mr. Musharraf gave the country's National Command
Authority complete control over the research, development and production of nuclear
technologies.
In a statement, army officials said the security of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is foolproof.
Last month, the "New York Times" reported the U.S. has spent almost 100 million dollars on a program to help Pakistan guard its nuclear weapons. The newspaper quoted experts who say Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is among the world's most vulnerable to terrorists.
Also today (Friday), former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif unveiled his platform for January eighth parliamentary elections. He called for the restoration of judges who were fired when President Musharraf imposed emergency rule and an end to military interference in politics.
