중국 외교부는 즉각 이같은 계획을 거부하고, 이는 종교적 관습과 역사적 절차를 주제넘게 어기는 것이라고 말했습니다.

The spiritual leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama, says Tibetans will hold a referendum before his death to decide their future system of leadership.
The 72-year old Dalai Lama told reporters in northern India today (Tuesday) that once his health starts to decline, serious preparations should be made for a referendum among Buddhists in the Himalayan range and into Mongolia.
China's foreign ministry immediately rejected the idea, saying the Dalai Lama's statement is in blatant violation of religious practice and historical procedure.
Traditionally, high ranking monks search for the reincarnation of their spiritual leaders following their deaths.
In an interview with VOA (Mandarin Service) last month, the Dalai Lama said his successor could be chosen like the pope, or that he may decide to declare his own successor before he dies.
