Burma's detained opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, says she is ready to cooperate with the country's military government in a process of dialogue.
Her statement was read out in Singapore late today (Thursday) by U.N. special envoy Ibrahim Gambari, who met with Aung San Suu Kyi earlier in the day as he wrapped up a six-day visit to Burma.
The detained opposition leader said she wanted to cooperate in the national interest to make the dialogue process a success, and that she welcomed U.N. mediation efforts.
Burmese state television said Aung San Suu Kyi will be permitted to meet with top members of her National League for Democracy Friday. It said she would also meet with Aung Kyi, the government's liaison with her.
Gambari's mission in Burma was his second since a violent crackdown in September on pro-democracy protesters.
