라이스 장관은 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 사이의 이견을 좁히기 위한 강화된 노력의 일환으로 호스니 무바라크 이집트 대통령을 만났습니다. 무바라크 대통령은 과거에 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간의 분쟁 뿐 아니라 팔레스타인 파벌들 간의 분쟁도 중재했습니다.
라이스 장관은 또한 이집트의 아흐메드 아불 가이트 외무장관과 중동평화회의에 관해 논의했습니다.
이보다 앞서 15일 라이스 장관은 지금은 팔레스타인 국가를 창설할 때라고 강조하면서, 조지 부시 미국 대통령도 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간 충돌 종식을 행정부의 최우선 과제 가운데 하나로 만들었다고 말했습니다.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is holding talks with Egyptian leaders in Cairo to discuss Egypt's support for a Middle East peace conference planned for next month.
Rice met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo today (Tuesday) as part of increased efforts to narrow the gap between Israel and the Palestinians. Mr. Mubarak has mediated between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as between Palestinian factions in the past.
Rice also discussed the upcoming peace conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
On Monday, Rice said it is time for the establishment of a Palestinian state. She said President Bush has made ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict "one of the highest priorities of his administration."
