중국 정부는 25일 메르켈 총리가 달라이 라마를 만남으로써 중대한 실수를 범했다고 말하고, 메르켈 총리에게 훼손을 복구할 것을 촉구했습니다. 중국은 메르켈 총리와 달라이 라마의 만남을 독일의 내정간섭으로 여기고 있습니다.
하지만 메르켈 총리는 이 같은 경고를 무시하고 23일 베를린에서 달라이 라마를 만나 티벳의 독립을 위한 그의 노력에 지지를 보냈습니다.
중국은 23일 예정됐었던 중국과 독일 고위급 관리들의 회담을 전격 취소했습니다.
China says relations with Germany have been damaged by German Chancellor Angela Merkel's meeting with Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
The Chinese government said today (Tuesday) the German leader made a serious mistake in meeting with the Dalai Lama and called on Germany to repair the damage. China said the meeting interfered with its internal affairs.
Merkel ignored warnings from China and met with the Dalai Lama in Berlin on Sunday.
She said she supported the Dalai Lama's push for more autonomy in his Tibetan homeland.
After Sunday's meeting, China canceled scheduled talks with top German officials that
were supposed to take place in Munich on Sunday.
