마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 이란 대통령은 최근 미국이 추진하고 있는 수백억 달러 규모의 중동지역 무기 수출에 대해 염려하지 않고 있다고 말했습니다.
3일 이란 관영통신 보도에 따르면 아흐마디네자드 대통령은 “미국이 중동 지역에서 이란의 동맹 국가들 사이에 분열을 조장하려 한다”고 말했습니다.
미국은 이번주에 사우디 아라비아를 포함한 중동 국가들과 200억 달러의 무기 수출 계약을 추진 중이라고 발표했습니다.
미국 국무부의 니콜라스 번스 차관은 미국의 무기 수출이 ‘이란의 팽창과 미래의 침략 행위를 저지하기 위한 것’이라고 말했습니다.
한편 로버트 게이츠 미국 국방장관도 2일까지 중동 국가들을 순방했으며, 이란의 핵 개발을 포기하도록 주변 국가들이 압력을 가할 것을 촉구했습니다.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says he is not worried by multi-billion-dollar U.S. arms sales in the Middle East.
Iranian news agencies today (Friday) quoted Mr. Ahmadinejad as saying the United States is trying to create divisions between what he called Iran's "brothers" in the region.
This week, the United States announced a 20-billion-dollar arms deal with Saudi Arabia and other Arab states in the Persian Gulf region.
U.S. Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns said the sale of U.S. weaponry would serve, in part, as a deterrence to what he called "Iranian expansionism and Iranian aggression in the future."
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates wrapped up a Middle East tour on Thursday, and called on countries to increase pressure on Iran to give up its alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons.
