미국의 장난감 회사인 피셔-프라이스사가 중국에서 생산된 자사 장난감에 납성분이 과다 함유됐다는 소비자 당국의 발표에 따라 1백 50만개의 장난감에 대해 리콜 즉 물건 회수조치를 내렸습니다.
이 회사는 미국내 플라스틱 장난감 96만 7천개를 회수하는 한편 해외 시장에서 판매중인 53만개의 제품에 대해서도 리콜 조치를 취했습니다.
이번에 주의가 내려진 80여종의 장난감들은 지난 5월이후 미국에서 판매돼 왔으며 미국 어린이들에게 인기가 높은 캐릭터 상품 ‘빅 버드’와 ‘엘모’, 그리고 ‘도라’ 등이 포함돼 있습니다.
미국소비자제품안전위원회(CPSC)는 어린이들이 주의가 내려진 제품에 접근하는 것을 막고 제품회사에 신고할 것을 소비자들에게 당부했습니다.
피셔-프라이스사의 모회사인 매텔은 문제의 장난감들은 중국의 계약회사가 제조한 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
A U.S. toy-maker is recalling one-and-a-half million Chinese-made toys because of concerns their paint contains too much lead.
Fisher-Price says it is pulling 967-thousand plastic toys off U.S. shelves. Another 533-thousand are being recalled internationally. The precaution includes around 80 types of toys have been sold in the United States since May. (They include the popular Big Bird, Elmo, and Dora the Explorer characters).
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is advising people to take any suspect toys away from children and contact the company.
Fisher-Price's parent company, Mattel, says the toys were produced by a contract manufacturer in China.
The recall follows other product safety incidents involving food, medicine and other products from China, including toothpaste and pet food ingredients.
In June, a U.S. toy importer (RC2 Corporation) recalled one-and-a-half million wooden "Thomas the Tank Engine" figures made in China that were covered with lead paint.
