미국은 인도를 세계무역기구, WTO에 제소하고, 인도가 알콜음료 등의 수입관세가 국제무역규정을 위반했다고 말했습니다.
미국의 수전 슈워브 무역대표는 25일 발표한 성명에서 인도가 특히 포도주와 증류주 등 미국산 제품에 부과한 추가관세는 인도의 WTO 서약과 일치하지 않는다고 말했습니다. 인도는 유제품과 같은 또 다른 미국 제품에 대해서도 추가관세를 부과했습니다.
슈와브 대표는 또한 인도는 미국 제품의 중요한 수출시장이라고 말했습니다.
지난 4월에 분쟁을 해결하기 위한 협상이 실패로 끝남에 따라 결국 미국은 WTO에 중재를 요청하기에 이르렀습니다.

The United States has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization against India, saying its duties on alcoholic beverages and other imports violate global trade rules.
U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab said in a statement that customs duties India adds to U.S. products, particularly wine and distilled spirits, are not in line with India's WTO commitments.
Schwab also said that India is an important export market for U.S. products. Talks in April failed to resolve the dispute, prompting the United States to ask for arbitration at the WTO.
The additional duties are also applied to other U.S. exports to India such as dairy products.
