Britain's Queen Elizabeth has visited Jamestown, Virginia - the site of England's first permanent settlement in America.
The queen and her husband, Prince Philip, were accompanied by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, today (Friday).
After a tour of the settlement's reconstructed buildings, the royals viewed an outdoor pageant. The show celebrated the British-American relationship, from the settlers' early history, through the American colonies' war for independence, to the strong alliance between the two countries today.
Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Conner praised what she called "the strong and lasting influence of Britain on the United States and the world."
Later, at an outdoor luncheon, Queen Elizabeth said her visits to Jamestown - the first in 1957 and the second today - are good examples
