이란에 억류됐다 풀려난 영국 수병들은 2주간 억류돼 있는 동안 끊임없이 심리적인 압박을 받았다고 밝혔습니다.
석방된 수병들의 지도자인 영국 해군의 펠릭스 카만 대위는 6일 런던에서 가진 기자회견에서 15명의 수병들이 눈을 가린 채 강압적인 조사를 받았으며, 돌로 된 독방에 수감됐었다고 밝혔습니다.
카만 대위는 이란 군들이 자신들이 체포될 때 이란 수역내에 들어왔다고 인정하면 석방해 줄 것이라고 말했다고 밝혔습니다.이란 혁명수비대는 지난 3월 23일 영국 해군 수병들이 한 상선에 올라가 검색하고 있을 때 이들을 체포했습니다.
이들은 아흐마디네자드 이란 대통령이 영국 국민에 대한 선물로 석방할 것이라고 발표한 뒤 지난 5일 풀려났습니다.
카만 대위는 영국 수병들이 일부 이란의 요구를 들어주기 위해 협력했지만, 자신들이 이란 수역내에 들어갔다는 사실을 직접 인정하지는 않았다고 밝혔습니다. 카만 대위는 영국 수병들은 이란 수역에서 2해리 떨어진 이라크 수역에서 체포됐다고 말했습니다.

British naval personnel held captive by Iran for two weeks say they were subjected to constant psychological pressure during their detention.
At a news conference in Britain today (Friday), the leader of the group, Royal Navy Lieutenant Felix Carman, said the 15 captives were blindfolded, aggressively interrogated and kept in solitary confinement. He said they were told they would be released if they admitted to being in Iranian waters when they were seized.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards seized the 15 sailors and marines March 23rd after the British naval personnel boarded and inspected a merchant ship. They were freed Thursday in what Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described as a "gift" to the British people.
Lieutenant Carman said the British naval personnel made a concerted effort to meet some Iranian demands, but that they avoided directly acknowledging being in Iranian waters. He said they were captured in Iraqi waters, almost two nautical miles from Iranian territory.
Iran today said the British news conference was "staged" propaganda.
