페이스 합참의장은 오늘 22일 베이징에 도착해 중국군 최고 사령관 리앙 구앙리 장군을 만났습니다. 회담에 앞서 페이스 합참의장은 양국이 협력과 상호 이해를 증진하기를 기대한다고 말했고, 리앙 구앙리 장군은 중국은 미국과의 군사 교류를 증대하길 원한다고 말했습니다.
중국의 신화통신은 페이스 합참의장의 방중과 관련해 미국과 중국의 군사관계 개선에는 미국의 미사일 400기 타이완 수출 계획 등을 포함해 걸림돌이 존재한다고 보도했습니다.

The United States' top general, Peter Pace, is in Beijing for talks on expanding relations with China's military.
The chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff arrived in the Chinese capital today (Thursday) and met his Chinese counterpart, General Liang Guanglie.
Pace said before the meeting he hopes the two sides can boost cooperation and mutual understanding. Liang said he wants to increase military exchanges with the United States.
The U.S. military chief also was scheduled to meet today with Chinese Defense Minister Cao Guangchuan. Pace's visit to China is to last four days.
China's official Xinhua News Agency said today that obstacles remain to improving military ties with Washington, including the planned U.S. sale of 400 missiles to Taiwan.
