이라크전 개전 4주년을 맞아 조지 부시 미국 대통령은 상황이 어렵지만 승리할 수 있는 전쟁이라고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 19일 백악관에서 성명을 발표했으며, 의회가 이라크와 아프가니스탄 전쟁 관련 특별예산을 수정 없이 신속하게 승인할 것도 촉구했습니다.
부시 대통령은 이라크에 주둔 중인 미군의 철군 시기를 정하는 것을 다시 한 번 거부했습니다. 하지만 민주당 주도의 하원에서는 특별예산과 맞물려서 내년 9월로 철군 시기를 정하는 법안을 추진하고 있습니다.
상원에서도 유사한 법안이 발의됐었으나, 부결된 바 있습니다.
부시 대통령은 이에 앞서 국가안전보장회의인 NSC 와 만났으며, 누리 알-말리키 이라크 총리와도 화상 회의를 가졌습니다.

President Bush has marked the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war, saying the fight is difficult, but it can be won.
In a brief statement from the White House Monday, Mr. Bush called on Congress to get an emergency war spending bill for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan to his desk "without strings" (restrictions) and without delay.
The president has repeatedly refused to set a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. But the U.S. House of Representatives, now led by Democrats, is preparing to debate a proposal that would link approval of emergency war funds to a troop pullout by September 2008.
A similar measure was narrowly defeated in the Senate.
Earlier Monday, the president met with his National Security Council team and held a videoconference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
