쿠나시리 섬 지역 보도에 따르면 이 일본인 선장은 10일간 항소 기회가 주어진 뒤, 본국행이 허가될 예정입니다. 러시아 경찰은 지난 1월21일 문제의 선박을 나포했으며, 지금까지 선장을 억류하고 있습니다. 선원 5명은 지난달에 풀려났습니다.
한편 쿠나시리 섬은 러시아와 일본간의 영유권 분쟁이 있어온 섬으로, 러시아는 최근 일본 어부들의 자국 영해 침범이 더욱 빈번해졌다고 주장해왔습니다.

A Russian court in the Kuril Islands has convicted a Japanese fishing-boat captain of poaching in Russian waters, and fined the man more than 11 thousand dollars. Russian officials say the Japanese skipper pleaded guilty Monday to the charges against him and apologized for his actions.
Reports from Kunashir, one of the disputed islands claimed by both Russia and Japan, say the Japanese fisherman will be free to leave the territory after a 10-day period, during which he can appeal the court decision.
He was detained on January 21st, when a Russian sea patrol seized his boat and its catch, 18-hundred kilograms of fish.
Five crew members aboard the Japanese vessel were returned home last month.
