Beckett arrived in Kabul amid heightened security Tuesday, hours after a suicide bomber attacked a nearby U.S. air base where U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney was staying.
The foreign secretary is expected to meet key Afghan government officials and the commanders of the U.S.-led coalition. It is her first trip to the country.
Beckett arrived from Pakistan, where she discussed efforts to secure its shared border with Afghanistan.
