한국의 한 새로운 보고서는 남한과 다른 국가들이 북한에 대한 식량 지원을 중단할 경우, 북한이 올해에 심각한 식량난에 봉착하게 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
남한의 한 연구기관인 농촌경제연구원은 28일 발표한 한 보고서에서 북한은 올해에 약 600만톤의 식량이 필요할 것이라고 말했습니다. 농촌경제연구원은 또 올해 작황이 좋다고 해도 북한은 소요 식량의 3분의 2 밖에 생산할 수 없는 상황이라고 지적했습니다.
한국의 연합통신은 이 연구원의 권태진 연구원의 말을 인용해, 북한이 올해에 200만톤 이상의 식량 부족에 직면하게 될 것이라고 전망했습니다. 남한이 북한에 대한 연례적인 식량 지원을 재개하더라도 이것은 북한의 식량난을 해소하기에서는 충분치 못하다고 권태진 연구원은 덧붙였습니다.

A new report says North Korea could face severe food shortages this year if South Korea and other countries cut off aid to Pyongyang.
A research organization in South Korea, the Korea Rural Economic Institute, published a report today (Wednesday) that says the North will need about six million tons of food this year. It estimates that North Korea, under favorable conditions, could produce little more than two-thirds of what is needed.
The South Korean news agency, Yonhap, quotes an institute researcher (Kwon Tae-Jin) as saying that without outside help, the North would face a shortage of more than two million tons of food. He says even if the South resumed its annual food aid to Pyongyang, it would still not be enough to eliminate the expected shortage.
