한국에서 주한 미군 기지 확장계획과 관련해 58 가구가 이사하는데 동의했습니다. 서울에서 70 킬로미터 떨어진 경기도 평택시 인근의 몇몇 마을 주민들은 보상금을 받는 조건으로 오는 3월 31일까지 이사하기로 약속했습니다.
이들은 그동안 이주를 거부해온 마지막 남은 주민들입니다.
지난해 5월 평택 주민 이주계획에 항의하는 주민들과 전투경찰 사이에 충돌이 발생해 여러 명이 다친 바 있습니다.
주민들의 항의로 계획이 지연되기 전 미국과 한국은 오는 2008년까지 주한미군 본부를 서울에서 평택으로 이전할 계획이었습니다.

Fifty-eight South Korean households have agreed to move from their homes to make way for the expansion of a U.S. military base.
The residents of several villages around the city of Pyeongtaek, 70 kilometers south of the capital, Seoul, have promised to complete the evacuation by March 31st in exchange for financial compensation.
The residents were the last group refusing to leave their homes to make room for the base. Last May, the relocation project sparked clashes that injured protesters and riot police.
Before the delays, the U.S. and South Korea had hoped to move the U.S. military's headquarters from Seoul to Pyeongtaek by 2008.
