한국 당국자는 10일 서울에서 70 킬로미터 떨어진 경기도 안성의 닭 농장에서 조류독감이 발생했다고 밝혔습니다.
폐사한 닭들은 H5 바이러스에 감염된 것으로 알려졌으며 이 바이러스가 인체에 치명적인 H5N1인지 여부를 판단하기 위해서는 추가 검사가 필요합니다.
검역당국은 조류독감이 발병한 농장에서 3 킬로미터 이내의 모든 가금류를 도살할 계획입니다.
지난해 11월 한국당국이 3년 만에 처음으로 조류독감이 발생했다고 밝힌 이후 2백만 마리 이상의 닭이 도살됐습니다.
지난 2003년 조류독감이 발병한 이후 전세계적으로 1백60명 이상이 숨졌으며 사망자들의 대부분은 아시아에서 나왔습니다.

South Korea's Agriculture Ministry has confirmed the country's sixth outbreak of bird flu among poultry, despite government efforts to contain the virus.
Officials said today (Saturday) that the latest case was found at a farm in Ansong, about 70 kilometers south of Seoul. The outbreak was caused by the H5 virus, but further tests are needed to determine whether it is the H5N1 strain that can be deadly to humans.
Quarantine authorities plan to cull poultry within three kilometers of the infected farm.
More than two million birds have been culled since November, when South Korea announced its first bird flu outbreak in about three years.
More than 160 people have died from bird flu since the outbreak began in late 2003, mainly in Asia.
