Iran says it is moving ahead with plans to produce nuclear fuel on an industrial scale.
Speaking to reporters in Tehran, Iran's government spokesman (Gholamhossein Elham) said Iran is in the process of installing three thousand uranium-enriching centrifuges. The centrifuges are to be installed at an experimental plant in Natanz (in central Iran).
Last week, news reports speculated that Iran's nuclear enrichment work had stalled.
The spokesman said Iran's plan to install the centrifuges is moving toward completion.
Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has called Iran's behavior "very negative."
Gates was speaking in Brussels after meeting with senior officials of the NATO alliance.
He said the U.S. has moved a Patriot missile battalion and a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf to demonstrate the importance to the United States of the Gulf region.
Major powers believe Tehran is working to develop atomic weapons, a charge Iran denies.
