타이완의 천수이볜 총통이 8일 미국 서부 캘리포니아주를 방문할 예정인 가운데 중국 정부가 미국의 천 총통의 방문 허가를 공식 항의했습니다.
중국의 신화통신은 8일 중국 정부가 천 총통의 캘리포니아 방문에 대해 깊은 우려를 담은 메시지를 미국에 보냈다고 보도했습니다.
류젠차오 중국 외교부 대변인은 이날 “미국의 천총통 방문 허가는 중국과 미국간의 관계를 심각하게 훼손하는 행위”라고 말했습니다.
류 대변인은 중국은 미국과 타이완과의 어떤 관계에도 반대한다고 말하고 중국은 이에 미국측에 엄숙히 항의한다고 말했습니다.
중국은 타이완을 중국 영토의 일부분으로 간주하고 있으며 타이완과 공식, 비공식 외교를 유지하는 어떤 나라에도 이를 반대하고 있습니다.
천수이볜 총통은 9일로 예정된 니카라과 대통령 취임식에 참석하기 위해 마나과로 향하는 길에 8일 중간 경유지인 샌프란시스코에 기착해 하룻 밤을 보낼 예정입니다.
천 총통은 지난해 5월 코스타리카 대통령 취임식 방문을 위해 샌프란시스코 경유를 미국에 요청했으나 미국 정부는 이를 허용하지 않았었습니다.

China has complained to the United States about a stopover Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian is planning to make in the U.S. state of California today (Monday).
China's state news agency, Xinhua, says Beijing has sent Washington a "solemn" message detailing its concerns.
Beijing considers Taiwan a part of its territory and objects to any country having relations with Taiwan officials, even in an informal capacity.
Mr. Chen is planning to stay overnight in the city of San Francisco before heading to Nicaragua Tuesday for the inauguration of President Daniel Ortega.
Last May, the United States turned down Taiwan's request for Mr. Chen to stop in San Francisco on his way to Costa Rica.
