이집트 정치단체들은 행정부가 이들의 합법적 정당결성 신청을 받아들이지 않은 것에 불복해 대법원에 소송을 제기했으나 대법원은, 정당결성을 위한 필수요건들이 갖추어지지 않았다는 이유로 기각한 정부의 결정을 그대로 인정했습니다.
미국의 국제인권단체, 휴먼 롸이츠 워치는 이집트의 호스니 무바라크 대통령과 집권 국민민주당이 정당결성에 관한 법률을 정권독점을 유지하는데 악용하고 있다고 규탄했습니다.
이집트에서 정당결성 요건을 갖춘 정당은 무바라크 대통령의 집권 국민민주당뿐입니다.
한편, 이집트 야당 지도자들은 무바라크 대통령이 아들인 가말 무바라크를 대통령으로 승계시키려 한다고 비난하고 있으니 가말 무바라크는 이를 부인하고 있습니다.

An Egyptian high court has upheld state rulings that rejected the legal recognition of 12 political groups.
The Supreme Administrative Court said Saturday that the groups did not meet the proper requirements for becoming political parties. The groups were appealing a decision by a government agency that turned down their applications to become political parties.
The rejected parties condemned the court ruling as a politically motivated attempt by the government to stifle opposition.
On Thursday, a U.S.- based human rights group, Human Rights Watch, accused Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak and his ruling National Democratic Party of using the law that governs the formation of political parties to maintain a monopoly on political power.
Opposition leaders have accused Mr. Mubarak of making efforts to ensure that his son, Gamal, succeeds him. Gamal Mubarak has denied having presidential ambitions.
