이집트 보건부는 25일, 열다섯살 난 소녀 한 명이 조류독감으로 사망했다고 발표했습니다.
보건부는 이날, 이 소녀가 조류독감 변종인 치명적인 H5N1에 감염돼 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
이 소녀는 지난 24일에 사망한 서른살 난 여인과 한 가족이었습니다. 나머지 가족 2명도 조류독감으로 진단을 받았습니다.
세계보건기구의 이집트지역 담당관은 이 여인이 지난 12월 중순에 병원에 입원했지만, 검사를 통해 얼마 전에야 겨우 치명적인 조류독감 변종에 감염된 사실을 밝혀냈다고 말했습니다.
이 담당관은 이 여인이 처음에 보건관계관들에게 그동안 자신이 가금류와 가까이에서 접촉하며 살았다는 사실을 밝히지 않았다고 밝혔습니다.

The Egyptian Health Ministry says a 15-year-old girl has died of bird flu -- the second such death in as many days.
The ministry says the girl died today (Monday) after contracting the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu.
The girl was apparently from the same family as a 30-year-old woman who died of bird flu on Sunday. Two members of the woman's family had also been diagnosed with bird flu.
A regional official of the World Health Organization said the woman had been hospitalized in mid-December but was only tested for the deadly form of the flu in the last few days. He said she initially did not tell health officials that she lived in close contact with ducks.
Nine Egyptians have now died from bird flu since it was first detected in Egyptian poultry in February.
