25일에 방영된 북한의 국영 텔레비전방송은 북한의 핵실험을 역사적인 쾌거라고 찬양하는 깃발들로 평양 거리가 장식되고 있음을 보여주었습니다. 적어도 한 깃발은 북한 주민들에게 핵보유국으로서의 자존심과 경의로 제국주의자들의 모든 도전을 어기차게 분쇄하자는 구호가 적혀 있었습니다.
북한은 미국으로부터의 위협을 막기 위해 핵무기가 필요하다고 주장하고 있습니다. 그러나 미국은 북한을 공격할 의도가 없다고 거듭 밝혔습니다.

North Korea's capital city, Pyongyang, has been draped in propaganda banners praising the country's status as a nuclear power, one month after the nation conducted an underground nuclear test.
News video shows the city decorated today (Saturday) with banners calling the test "a historic event." At least one banner calls on North Koreans to, in its words, "resolutely foil all challenges of the imperialists with full pride and respect of being a nuclear state."
North Korea has insisted that it needs nuclear weapons to fend off threats from the United States. But Washington has said repeatedly it has no intention of attacking North Korea.
Pyongyang drew international criticism after it detonated a nuclear device underground on October ninth. But North Korea recently agreed to return to multilateral talks on ending its nuclear activities. Those talks are expected to resume in Beijing as early as next month.
