사담의 변호인 단은 법원이 담당 수석 판사 교체와 대량 학살 혐의와 관련된 수 천건의 문서를 변호인들이 검토할 수 있도록 허용하지 않자 이에 대한 항의로 재판 참석을 거부하고 있습니다.
사담 후세인과 6명의 측근들은 지난 1980년대 수만명의 쿠르드족을 학살한 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

Lawyers for former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein say they will continue to boycott his trial on charges of genocide when it resumes Monday in Baghdad.
Lawyer Khalil al-Dulaimi said today (Sunday) the decision was made after the defense team met with Saddam to discuss the trial.
Saddam's defense team is protesting the ouster of the trial's first chief judge, and the court's refusal to allow the lawyers to examine thousands of documents linked to the case.
Saddam and six co-defendants are charged with killing tens of thousands of Iraqi Kurds in the late 1980s.
