7만 3천여명의 목숨을 앗아갔던 파키스탄 대지진 1주년을 맞아 파키스탄 전역에서 희생자들을 위한 묵념 등 각종 추모행사가 펼쳐졌습니다.
파키스탄은 지진이 파키스탄령 카슈미르 지역과 프론티어주를 덥쳤던 오전 8시 52분에 맞춰 사이렌을 울리며 1분간의 묵념을 가졌습니다.
페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령은 파키스탄령 카슈미르의 주도인 무자프파라바드의 한 운동 경기장에서 희생자들을 위한 추도식을 거행했습니다.
지난해 발생한 대지진으로 무자프파라바드시의 건물 수백채가 무너지고 산사태 유발로 도시 전체가 쑥밭으로 변해 3백 만명의 이재민이 발생했었습니다.
무샤라프 대통령은 이날 추모연설에서 피해지역의 구조와 복구 노력을 치하하고 60억 달러 규모의 원조를 제공한 국제사회의 지원에 감사를 표시했습니다. 무샤라프 대통령은 또한 지역 부패 관리들이 구호 지원금을 중간에서 착복했다는 지진 피해 생존자들의 불평에 대해 수사를 약속했습니다.

Sirens wailed across Pakistan at 8:52 a.m. local time (0352 UTC), the exact minute the seven-point-six magnitude quake hit Pakistani-controlled Kashmir and the Northwest Frontier Province.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf led a prayer service for the victims at a stadium in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir.
The earthquake toppled hundreds of buildings in Muzaffarabad and triggered massive landslides that swept away entire villages. More than three million people were made homeless.
Speaking at the memorial, General Musharraf praised the rescue and recovery efforts, and thanked the international community, which has offered six billion dollars in aid.
Mr. Musharraf promised the government will investigate complaints by earthquake survivors that aid money is being stolen by corrupt local officials.
