미국의 조지 부쉬 대통령은 유엔 총회 참석차 18일 뉴욕을 방문합니다. 부쉬 대통령은 유엔 총회에서 중동의 신생 민주 국가들을 강화하기 위한 지원에 초점을 맞출 것으로 보입니다.
보좌관들은 19일에 있을 부쉬 대통령의 유엔총회 연설은 중동 지역내 민주화 추진과 이라크와 레바논, 그리고 팔레스타인 당국등 현존하는 민주국가들을 강화해야할 필요성에 초점이 맞춰질 것이라고 전했습니다.
민주국가들의 지원에 주력함과 동시에 부쉬 대통령은 18일 말레이시아와 엘살바도르, 온두라스, 탄자니아 지도자들과도 만날 예정입니다. 또한 부쉬 대통령은 이번 주 중에 팔레스타인 및 이라크 지도자들과도 만날 예정이며 프랑스의 자크 시라크 대통령과 만나 이란 핵문제도 논의할 것으로 보입니다.

President Bush heads to New York today to attend the United Nations General Assembly where he will focus on helping to strengthen emerging democracies in the Middle East.
Aides say Mr. Bush's address to the assembly on Tuesday will focus on the need to advance democracy in the Middle East and strengthen existing democracies in Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority.
In keeping with his theme of supporting democracies, President Bush will meet today (Monday) with the leaders from Malaysia, El Salvador, Honduras and Tanzania.
Later in the week he is to meet with the Palestinian and Iraqi presidents and discuss Iran's nuclear program with the president of France.
