세계 7개 선진 공업국과 러시아등 G-8 지도자들은 중동 폭력사태 종식과 이란 및 북한의 핵문제 우려를 포함한 국제 현안들을 해결하기 위한 계획의 개요를 마무리짓고 정상 회의를 마쳤습니다.
G-8 지도자들은 중동 문제와 관련한 성명에서 과격단체 헤즈볼라에게 납치한 이스라엘 병사를 석방하고 이스라엘에 대한 로켓 공격을 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다.
최종 성명에서 G-8 지도자들은 또한 이스라엘에게 레바논에대한 공습과 많은 민간인 살상 행위를 중단할 것도 촉구했습니다.
이란 문제와 관련해 미국과 러시아의 지도자들은 이란의 핵무기 개발 계획 의혹을 둘러싼 문제를 유엔안보리에 다시 회부하는 결정을 지지하고 있는 다른 G-8 정상들에 합류했습니다. G-8 지도자들은 또한 세계 자유무역협정을 타결짓기 위한 협상을 가속화하겠다는 공약도 재천명했습니다.

The leaders of the Group of Eight industrialized countries have concluded their summit outlining plans for dealing with world problems, including calls for an end to Middle East violence, concern over Iran and North Korea.
In their Middle East statement, the G-8 leaders called on the militant group Hezbollah to free kidnapped Israeli soldiers and to end rocket attacks on the Jewish state.
In a final statement, the group also called on Israel to end air strikes in Lebanon that have killed dozens of Lebanese civilians.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Tony Blair called for an international peacekeeping force to be deployed along the border between Lebanon and Israel.
On Iran, the leaders of Russia and the United States joined their counterparts from Britain, Italy, France, Germany, Canada and Japan in backing a decision to again refer Tehran to the United Nations Security Council over its suspect nuclear program. The communiqué warns Iran that failure to cooperate could lead to punitive U.N. action that could include sanctions.
The G-8 leaders also renewed their commitment to accelerate talks aimed at reaching a deal on a global free trade pact.
