중국 외교부의 장유 대변인은 이번 행동은 미국과 중국 간 국제관계의 근본원칙들을 심각하게 위반한 것이라고 말했습니다. 하원을 통과한 이번 조처는 타이완 외교관들이 백악관이나 국무부에서 미국 관리들을 만나지 못하도록 한 것을 해제했습니다.
미 국무부는 지난 1979년 `하나의 중국' 정책의 일환으로 이같은 규제를 마련했습니다.
China has protested a vote by the U.S. House of Representatives that would lift some restrictions on relations between U.S. and Taiwanese officials.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu called the action a serious violation of the fundamental principles of international relations between the U.S. and China.
The measure approved by the House late Wednesday lifts prohibitions on meetings with Taiwan representatives at the White House or State Department offices, among other locations. The Senate must still consider the measure before it can become law.
The U.S. State Department imposed the restrictions in 1979 to reinforce the U.S. "one China" policy which recognizes mainland China over Taiwan.
Chinese Nationalists fled to Taiwan after defeat in China's civil war in 1949. Beijing considers Taiwan a renegade province and has threatened to use force if the island formally declares independence.
