블레어 총리는 고든 브라운 재무장관 및 힐라리 벤 개발부 장관과 함께 인디펜던트 신문에 게재한 기고문에서 가난한 나라들은 빈곤 해소를 위해 즉각적인 행동을 기대할 권리가 있다고 말했습니다.
G-8 국가 지도자들은 지난해 스코틀랜드에서 열린 정상회담에서 2010년까지 개발도상국들에게 5백억달러를 추가로 지원하기로 약속했습니다.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair says the Group of Eight industrialized nations has failed to act on some commitments made last year to fight global poverty.
Writing in Britain's Independent newspaper, Mr. Blair, Finance Minister Gordon Brown and Development Minister Hilary Benn said poor nations have a right to expect immediate action to reduce poverty.
G-8 leaders pledged an extra 50-billion dollars to developing nations by 2010 at last year's summit in Scotland. About half that amount was to go to Africa.
Later today (Monday), Mr. Blair is to announce the formation of a high-profile panel to monitor G-8 pledges to African anti-poverty programs.
U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan will head the Africa Progress Panel. Other members are to include computer magnate Bill Gates, Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and rock star Bob Geldof.
