Iran says a new international proposal aimed at persuading Iran to end its uranium enrichment program has some positive steps.
But the country's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, says the package also contains ambiguities. He did not elaborate, and said Iran will examine the proposal in detail.
Larijani spoke after two hours of talks in Tehran with EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, on the incentives package. Solana described today's (Tuesday's) meeting as positive.
Officials have not said what is contained in the proposal drawn up by the five permanent U.N. Security Council members (the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China) plus Germany.
An American newspaper (The New York Times) quotes diplomatic sources as saying the proposal would allow Iran to buy agricultural technology from the United States and aircraft parts from the Airbus and Boeing companies. The package also is said to include a threat of penalties if Iran refuses to cooperate.
