U.S.-led coalition forces in say they have killed up to 27 Taleban militants during an operation in the southern Kandahar province.
In a statement, the military confirmed seven deaths, saying that 15 to 20 more suspects may have been killed during an airstrike.
Earlier, Afghan and Canadian forces tracked down another group of Taleban in the same province. A coalition spokesman told VOA 18 militants and one Canadian soldier were killed and 26 militants were captured.
In neighboring Helmand province, hundreds of insurgents attacked Musa Qala town. At least 13 policemen and 40 Taleban attackers were killed.
In the western Afghan city of Herat, a suicide bomber rammed his car into a convoy, killing a American contractor training Afghan police. Hours later, another suicide car bomb attack killed an Afghan civilian in southeastern Ghazni province.
