중국 정부는 1989년 텐안멘 광장 민주화 시위 며칠 후 경찰에 구금돼 있던 중 사망한 15살 소년의 어머니에게 보상금을 지급했다고 중국의 인권운동가들이 밝혔습니다.
중국 정부는 자오구궝 씨의 어머니에게 어려운 생활에 대한 지원조로 8천7백여 달러를 지급했다고 운동가들은 말했습니다. 중국 정부가 천안문 민주화 운동에 대한 탄압으로 사망한 사람의 가족에게 보상금을 지급한 것은 지금까지 알려진 사례로는 이번이 처음입니다.

Chinese activists say the government has paid compensation to the mother of a 15-year-old boy who died in police custody days after the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
They say the Chinese government paid the mother of Zhou Guocong more than 8,700 dollars (70-thousand yuan) in so-called hardship assistance. Activists say the payment is the first known time China has paid compensation to a relative of someone killed during the crackdown on the democracy movement.
