앙겔라 메르켈 독일 총리와 토니 블레어 영국 총리는 17일 팔레스타인의 과격파 단체인 하마스에 대해 폭력을 포기할 것을 촉구했습니다.
두 정상은 이날 베를린에서 정상회담을 가진 뒤 열린 기자회견에서 이같이 말했습니다. 지난달 실시된 입법회의 선거에서 과반수를 차지한 하마스는 유럽연합과 미국 및 이스라엘에 의해 테러단체로 분류돼 있습니다.
블레어 총리와 메르켈 총리는 정상회담에서 유럽연합의 장래와 이란의 핵 계획을 비롯한 중동 문제 현안들을 논의했다고 말했습니다. 블레어 총리가 독일을 방문한 지난 11월 메르켈 총리 취임 이후 처음입니다.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and visiting British Prime Minister Tony Blair say the Palestinian group Hamas must renounce violence. Ms. Merkel and Mr. Blair made their comments at a news conference following talks today (Friday) in Berlin.
Hamas, which won parliamentary elections last month, is classified as a terrorist organization by the European Union, the United States and Israel. Mr. Blair and Ms. Merkel said their discussions focused on the future of the European Union and the current situation in the Middle East, including Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Britain, Germany and France have been representing the EU in negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program. The West accuses Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies. Prime Minister Blair's trip to Germany is his first since Ms. Merkel took office in November.
