이라크의 전 독재자 사담 후세인과 전직 관리 7 명에 대한 재판이 28일, 속개됐습니다. 반인륜범죄 등의 혐의로 기소된 이들에 대한 재판은 텔레비전 방송으로 공개된 가운데 두건을 쓴 피고들이 법정안에 설치된 칸막이안에 앉아 진행됐습니다.
사담 훗세인은 코란을 낀채 마지막으로 법정에 들어섰으며 재판절차를 시작하기 전 판사와 잠시 언쟁을 벌였습니다.
이날 재판은 미국의 램지 클라크 전 법무장관과 카타르의 나지브 알-누에이미 전 법무장관 등이 피고들의 변호인단석에서 참관했습니다. 이들은 재판에 대한 국제적 신뢰도를 높이기 위해 고문자격으로 참관한 것이라고 전문가들은 말했습니다.
이라크 검찰은 지난 1982년 두자일에서 당시 사담 후세인 대통령을 암살하려던 음모와 관련해 회교도 시아파 주민 140여 명이 처형된 사건에 관한 증인들을 소환할 예정입니다.

Ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and seven of his former officials are in court today (Monday) as their trial resumes on the charge of crimes against humanity. Television cameras inside the courtroom showed the defendants sitting in the docks and adorned in traditional head scarves, their names announced in a loud roll call.
Saddam, with a Koran under his arm, was the last defendant to enter the courtroom. He briefly argued with the judge before proceedings continued. Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark and former Qatari Justice Minister Najib al-Nueimi were seated with the defense team.
Analysts say their role as advisors is meant to give the defense more international credibility. Following a five-weak break in the trial, prosecutors are now expected to call witnesses to testify about the deaths of more than 140 Shi'ite villagers in the town of Dujail in 1982 following an assassination attempt against Saddam.
