미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무 장관이 토니 블레어 영국 총리와 이란 핵 계획과 그밖의 다른 안보 문제들을 협의하기 위해 16일 런던에 도착했습니다.
라이스 국무 장관은 하루 전, 테헤란측이 자체 핵 계획에 관한 협상을 계속 거부할 경우 이란을 유엔 안전 보장 이사회에 회부해 제재를 가할 수 있도록 하려는 노력을 지지해 주도록 러시아 지도자들을 설득하려 했으나 실패했습니다.
라이스 국무장관은 러시아 지도자들에게 이란은 핵 확산 금지 조약하의 자체 의무를 준행하지 않고 있다고 지적했습니다.
이란측에게 국제 원자력 기구에 협력하고 자체 핵 계획에 관한 회담에 복귀하도록 촉구하는데 지지를 규합하기 위해 유럽을 순방하고 있는 라이스 국무 장관은 영국 BBC 라디오 방송과의 회견에서 외교 활동의 결과로 이란이 유엔 안보리에 회부될 것으로 자신한다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in Britain today (Sunday) where she will confer with Prime Minister Tony Blair on Iran's nuclear program and other security issues.
Ms. Rice's stop in London comes one day after she failed to persuade Russian leaders to support efforts to bring Iran before the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions if Tehran continues to reject negotiations on its nuclear program.
She told Russian leaders that Iran is not living up to its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
In an interview on British radio (BBC), Ms. Rice said she is confident Iran will be referred to the Security Council when diplomacy has run its course.
The U.S. secretary of state is on a European tour to gather support for urging Iran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and return to stalled talks on the country's nuclear program.
