고이즈미 주니찌로 일본 총리는 유엔 안전보장 이사회 상임 이사국 진출을 위한 일본의 방침을 거듭 강조했습니다.
최근의 선거에서 압도적인 승리를 한 고이즈미 총리는 15일 유엔의 세계정상회의 연설에서 그와같이 강조했습니다. 고이즈미 총리는 안전보장 이사회 개편은 유엔의 정당한 목표라면서 2차 대전후 일본이 평화주의에 얼마나 충실해 왔는가를 강조했습니다.
이른바 그룹– 4 국가인 브라질, 인도, 독일, 일본은 안보리 상임이사국 수를 6개 더 신설하고 이사국 수를 모두 25개국으로 하자고 요구하고 있습니다. 그러나 그 같은 제안은 중국과 미국에 의해 거부되고 있으며 다른 이사국들로부터도 지지를 받지 못하고 있습니다.

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has renewed Tokyo's call for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council.
Mr. Koizumi, fresh from a landslide election win, addressed world leaders at the United Nations summit in New York on Thursday.
He said Security Council reform is a "just cause" for the international community. He stressed Japan's record of pacifism since the end of World War Two.
A proposal by the so-called Group of Four nations -- Brazil, India, Germany and Japan -- calls for increasing the Security Council to 25 with six new permanent members.
But the proposal is opposed by China and the United States and has failed to gain support among other council members.
